IFLA TRAVEL GRANTEES

At the end of October 2003 the new travel grant - IFLA Travel Grant - was announced through IFLA's listserv, other lists in the regions, in the IFLA Regional Newsletters, IFLA Journal and on the IFLA web site.

By the deadline, February 15, we had received 473 valid applications, for which only 16 grants were available. The committee's decision was a difficult one, as there were so many well-qualified candidates.

The grantees are:

  • Mr Louise Foster, Jamaica
  • Ms Isabel Giménez Garcia, Guatemala

Sida Speakers Grant is another travel grant and this year's grantees are:

  • Ms Leena Shah, India
  • Ms Patricia Mamvoto, Zimbabwe
  • Margaret Makenzi, Kenya
This years Harry Campbell grantee is:
  • Ms Mary Gorvie from Sierra Leone.

The travel grants, administered by ALP, started in 1999 with the Danida Travel Grant. The Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Danida, allocated a generous grant to support librarians from developing countries to attend the IFLA conferences. With this grant 39 librarians attended the IFLA Bangkok conference, 27 grantees were selected year 2000, 30 grantees year 2001 and 31 year 2002. In 2003 IFLA ALP did not have any funds for a travel grant.

This year IFLA has allocated money to the travel grant.
